Non-specific, unordered listing of things I got wrong:

  • Just type in the shell name to switch what shell you're working from...at least I think that's what it said...

  • And to leave the shell you switched to, just type exit

  • Don't forget that the syntax is wc <filename>

  • Same thing with su - unless you're switching to root, include the username

  • 654 gives you read and write permissions, the group read and execute permissions, and everyone else read permissions

  • Don't be stupid and forget the -l condition for ls to get all details! (holy frig)

  • To change permissions on a file so that you have read, write and execute permissions, your group has read and execute permissions, and anyone has execute permissions, the chmod code would be 751, and make sure to put the extension after the filename! (D'uh)

On a side note, why the heck did Lesley lock the UNIX review?

The reason beind the epic and well known tale of "The Locked Unix Review" is now so laced with fiction that few know the truth. But I, having been there, can now share how and why it happened.

*insert weird flashback hazing*

Long long ago, Princess Lesley lived in her fair kingdom. She was surrounded by servants and hamsters, all there to do her bidding and to keep her happy. Then one day she decided to undertake the arduous task of going to school to become a programmer. She knew this was a big deal as it meant that she would have to abandon her princess-ship but she felt it was her destiny. So she went to school and took good notes in her class. Wanting to be charitable, she decided to share said notes, as her benevolent insticts she had developed during her reign as Princess were deeply ingrained. However, and EVIL harpy went behind her and made it so that no others could access the notes, ruining Princess Lesley's reputation and causing her classmates much strife and distress. Princess Lesley later vanquished the harpy, aided by her heroic hamsters, and unlocked the entry and she lived Happily every after....

or did she??
